TV Weather Presenter Visit #2
FROM THE PRINCIPAL TEAM WEATHER PRESENTER VISIT #2 AVPS was treated to our second weather presenter visit for the term on Monday when Channel 10's Mike Larkin presented live from Ben's classroom, Unit 1.
Emma (Unit 2) and Ela (Unit 4) featured in the segment, promoting our wonderful school and in particular, the Fete coming up on October 19. It was a lot of fun for the children, parents and staff who were present. Thank you to Ben Kline for inspiring his students to write persuasive letters, which proved just how powerful the pen can be.
This segment can be accessed at the 10Play website. Search for News 16th September and scroll to the 27 and 57 minute marks to view AVPS being featured in the weather reports. Please enjoy these snaps below:
WEATHER PRESENTER VISIT #1 Please find a link below and enjoy watching the Nine News segment featuring Isaac from Unit 4 which aired on Sunday 8th September. Nine News - Little Kids Big Ideas Congratulations to Isaac for capturing the attention of Nine News and representing his school and family so very well.
Well done also to Isaac's teachers Sarah and Ellen for inspiring such Big Ideas.
SPORT COLOURS DAY Don't forget ‘sport colours day’ tomorrow, Friday 20th September, which coincides with our special lunch day, where pies (etc) will be offered as a lunch choice. To help get into the spirit of Melbourne’s September footy finals frenzy, AVPS children and adults are encouraged to dress up in their favourite team colours from any sporting code, noting that it does not necessarily need to be AFL football. We look forward to yet another day of colour and fun at AVPS tomorrow.
AvGT IS COMING Ascot Vale's Got Talent will once again be a feature of this year's fete. Please encourage your child / children to plan a group or solo performance (musical / dance / singing/ theatrical / magic /comedy, etc, ) and 'try out' to appear on the fete stage at AVPS on October 19. There will not be enough stage time for every performance on the day, so a short listing process will take place in the first week of term 4. Teachers will nominate several acts from their units and a final audition will take place at a lunch time on Thursday 10th October. Thank you to Alison (mum of Lauren and Fin) and teachers, Lucy, Britt and Marg for organising this fun event for the children.
Along with health benefits, walking to school has benefits for the whole community. It reduces traffic congestion, saves on parking, helps us connect with family and friends and even saves the environment. We look forward to everyone taking advantage of the improving weather conditions and choosing to travel to school in safe and healthy ways in the month of October. Members of the Student Representative Council will oversee the collection of data about students' travel methods in the month of October.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS We ask our close neighbours or those using the playgrounds to help look after our school on the holidays by reporting any suspicious behaviour in and around our school grounds to the police on ‘000’. Wishing everyone a fabulous holiday break. See you all back at school on MONDAY 7TH OCTOBER.
Kind regards Sue Osborne & Michael Downing, AVPS Principal Team

PLEASE HELP ISAAC SUPPORT A WORTHY CAUSE Dear students, My name is Isaac and I’m in year 6 unit 4, and I’m on a mission to collect plastic bottle tops. For my term challenge I decided to research about helping hands supported by Envision. They turn plastic bottle caps into filament/string that they run through there 3D printer to create prosthetic hands. So I need all of you to tell your parents don’t throw out the plastic bottle tops because I need you to bring them in and put them in this box. I am going to set boxes up in every classroom to collect them and at the end of each week I will come around and collect them from your box. But the bottle caps have to have a 2 or a 4 on them other wise the people who make them can’t recycle the other bottle caps. And before putting it into the box please make sure they are cleaned.
Thank you Isaac
