FROM THE PRINCIPAL TEAM
2020 STAFF PHOTO
Well - didn't we get that wrong!
Each year we have a theme for our staff photo; construction workers, loud shirts, Japan, to name a few recent ones. We thought we'd nailed the 2020 look but now realise we probably should have gone for our second idea; health care worker - at least we're prepared for next year.

REMOTE LEARNING SLIDESHOWS /
SCHOOL'S BACK FOR ALL STUDENTS NEXT WEEK
Thank you to families and staff for contributing to this week's remote learning slideshows. Special appreciation goes to Lucy our art teacher for inspiring such magnificent art works that resulted in us having to make several 'themed' slideshows to cater for the breadth of fantastic contributions. 'Hats off' to our staff for doing such a magnificent job over the past ten or so weeks. We hope you enjoy the image of our hat themed final working from home staff meeting celebration.
We are very much looking forward to having all children back to school as of next Tuesday and thank our community of children, parents, family members, carers and staff for their co-operation, perseverance and hard work in making remote learning work as best as it possibly could for our AVPS community. A parent recently pointed out that remote learning has lasted almost the entire season of Autumn for some children!! That's such a significant experience for them all and for the adults in their lives as well. We have learnt a lot about ourselves throughout this pandemic. There are some things we will keep doing and some things we would do differently if we had our time over again. Here's hoping we will not need to repeat this experience for a very long time to come.
A quick reminder:
Monday 8th June - Queen's Birthday Public Holiday - school closed.
Stage 1: 25 May – 5 June
In the first stage, students in Year Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 return to school from Tuesday 26 May.
Remote and flexible learning will continue for all students in Years 3 to 6 until Tuesday 9 June.
During Stage 1, the existing model of on-site schooling for students (Years 3-6) who cannot be supervised at home and vulnerable children will remain in place.
Stage 2: from 9 June
Students in Years 3, 4, 5 & 6 will return to school from Tuesday 9 June. All students will be expected to attend school as normal from this date.
Please note our previous plans for a pupil free day 9th June have been cancelled.
Please be prepared for a compass alert tomorrow (Friday 5th June) that will outline the arrival and departure procedures in place from Tuesday 9th June.
REPORTS - SEMESTER 1 - UPDATE
The Department of Education and Training has adjusted the expectations of Student Reports for Semester 1 in recognition of the transition to remote and flexible learning during Term 2. While our school has continued to deliver its teaching and learning program and monitor the achievement and progress of each student, there have been some unprecedented changes to our usual program.
At Ascot Vale Primary School (AVPS) we know it is vital to involve students and their parents/carers in learning. This process includes providing reports on student learning. We will provide a written report for the parent/carer of each student enrolled at the school for Semester 1. The reports will include some information on student achievement for curriculum areas taught, however, there are some changes from our usual Semester 1 reports.
Student reports for Semester 1 2020 will include:
