2019 FETE
Thank you to all who came along to our fete on Saturday 19th October. It was a great success despite the incredibly challenging weather.

Thank you to Sue Macaulay who did a superb job of managing approximately twenty-five stall co-ordinators, who, in turn, worked with a team of very happy volunteers completing stall shifts to make the fete such a great success.

THANK YOU ONE AND ALL who contributed to what turned out to be a most successful 2019 Fete. It is expected that, after expenses and final auction purchases are calculated, the Fete will have raised over $20,000 to go towards a new playground for the children of AVPS.

Particular thanks go to our major sponsors of the 2019 Fete appearing in the following image; Jellis Craig, Pace Development Group and The Happy Apple. Some funds raised on the day will also go to our selected charity of Envision Hands to support their work in providing prosthetic hands for children.

Please enjoy some fabulous images of Fete 2019 (thanks to Annie Cuthbert) in the slideshow below.

MUSIC PROGRAM AT THE FETE
Congratulations to members of the school choir and band who performed at the fete last Saturday!

Led by soloists Katherine, Maeve and Charley, the choir sang 'Million Dreams', 'Hakuna Matata' and 'Can't Stop the Feeling' with all students enjoying the opportunity to use microphones.

The band agreed as a group to keep playing through the rain and were rewarded when it stopped after 'Medieval Fayre' so we could also play 'Quiet Moments' and 'Monsters in the Attic'. Special thanks to Isaac and Fin for being our rhythm section for the day.

Well done for sharing what we do in the music program with the school community!

Katherine Anderson
AVPS & MVIMP Music Tutor

PLANNING FOR 2020 UNIT PLACEMENT & a note about requests
Planning is now underway to determine our 2020 class and unit structure. As always, when the structure is confirmed, this will be communicated via the newsletter later this term.

In the meantime, please note we are now seeking requests in writing for siblings to be placed together (or not). To ensure requests can be met, these are due by no later than Friday 15th November 2019. Please attention this information to Michael Downing at this email address: ascot.vale.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au

Also, please be aware that the school does not and cannot accept requests for teachers or units. The reason being, it is impossible for the school to satisfy such requests from everyone if this was to become usual practice across the school. It also sets parents/carers up for great disappointment if request are made that cannot be accommodated. This is a situation we would prefer to avoid and therefore ask parents/carers not to request a particular teacher or unit. AVPS staff go through a complex and comprehensive process of determining individual and social needs of students in developing unit groups for the following year, noting our multi-age structure also encourages students and teachers to be together for more than one school year where possible.

Please note, students and their families will be informed about their 2020 Unit placement in the final week of term 4 and will have the opportunity to meet with their new unit and teacher (where possible) before the end of the school year.

YEAR PREP ENROLMENTS 2020 or STUDENTS LEAVING
To assist us with planning for the 2020 school structure, please finalise any Year Prep or new enrolments for 2020 as soon as possible. In addition, please notify the school if your child/children will not be returning to AVPS in 2020. It is important for the school to have this information at the earliest possible time to help organise unit structures, budgets and staffing arrangements. Your cooperation in this matter is much appreciated.

2020 AVPS ENROLMENT- UPDATE
We are only able to accept 2020 Year Prep- 6 student enrolments if Ascot Vale PS is the student’s closest Victorian Government Primary School. Regional Department of Education and Training (DET) Victoria staff have communicated that AVPS must limit the number of students enrolling from outside the designated neighbourhood area to prepare for a forecast increase in enrolment numbers in the coming years from within our designated neighbourhood. We are obliged by the Department of Education and Training (DET) to accept all students for whom Ascot Vale PS is the closest Government school to their permanent residence (residential address, not business).

Please visit the Find My School website to identify your closest Government school. If AVPS is not your closest Government school, your child may be placed on a waiting list.  Please contact the school (9370 6507) if you are unsure or have queries about our enrolment restrictions.

The school requires proof of current residence - either a current local council rates notice, utility bill or rental agreement and match this to a driver’s licence or passport. We accept all siblings, regardless of current residential address, however, at least one sibling must be currently enrolled.

ADMINISTRATION OF MEDICATION POLICY
The attached policy was reviewed and developed by the (very hard working)  Education and Policy Committee of School Council in October.  Please peruse it, noting the process for administering medication to students requires a Student Medication Authority Form to be completed and signed by a parent or carer. This form is also attached.  Be aware these and many other policies are accessible on our school website here: http://avps.vic.edu.au/policies--standards.html

OCTOBER - WALK TO SCHOOL MONTH
Thank you for participating in the Moonee Valley City Council's (MVCC) Walk to School initiative.

It has been great to see healthy, happy children arriving to school via safe and active means. We hope this has also had a positive impact on our community by reducing  traffic congestion.

Thank you to Heath, Jason and our Student Representative Council for promoting this program and co-ordinating the collection of data about students' travel methods in the month of October.
