MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL TEAM
NATIONAL SCIENCE WEEK
15-23 AUGUST
There has never been a better time to celebrate science and scientists who are our world's heroes in the current circumstances.
Let's all inspire the next generation of hero scientists by celebrating National Science Week and encouraging our children to become unafraid, curious and passionate about science.
We encourage families to use their imagination and curiosity to inspire children's scientific minds........ or you can tap into the great ideas at the following links (click below to access):
Also, please see Doug's suggestion below about being a 'Citizen Scientist - Discover Our Natural Environment', where he encourages children to get out into nature and take photos........... just like the ones below, taken at school today:

But what exactly is mindfulness? And, how can you recognize it and reap its many benefits? Mindfulness meditation practice is one way to truly experience the current moment and integrate that awareness into your everyday life. RUOK? Day 2020 - September 10
R U OK?Day is Thursday 10 September 2020. It’s our national day of action when we remind Australians that every day is the day to ask, “Are you OK?” if someone in your world is struggling with life’s ups and downs.
2020 has been a challenging year for everyone and circumstances have made it even more important for us all to stay connected and, for those who are able, be willing to support those around us. On this day, AVPS will integrate this day into the teaching and learning sessions - for eg, what to say when someone says they’re not OK and guide them through how they can continue a conversation that could change a life.
We are also asking all staff and students to dress up in Yellow.
PARENT SURVEY - BYO Device Review
In 2019, AVPS School Council agreed to review the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program in light of parent and staff feedback about the program, especially feedback about managing a device (i.e. screen time) for their child at home. Discussions with staff and School Council last year lead to the BYOD program only being supported in years 5 and 6 (not year 4’s as it has been in years passed) this year until a review took place to determine if and what a BYOD would look like and ultimately take place in 2021 and beyond.
We would like to take 5 minutes of your time to ascertain your thoughts and opinions about a BYOD program at AVPS in the future. Your feedback will shape how and what is recommended for the 2021 school year and beyond. School Council will make this recommendation to the school community in November.
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/KYBHJQN
Please complete this survey (via the link above) only once per family/ household - all year levels are invited to participate. The survey closes on Friday 28th August 2020 at 11.00pm.
Thank you and take good care.
