NEWS FROM THE SPORTING FIELD
After a little absence that I couldn’t prevent, I am back and students beware!

PE Lessons
As we get towards the end of the school year the big focus in PE is going to be fitness! The first three weeks of Term 4 all classes were playing games with the aim of having ever student with running or jogging for the majority of the lesson. The aim was to work on our cardiovascular strength, before the weather gets too hot and students can barely walk before they break our sweating. For the second part of Term 4 we will move onto muscular strength, so those in level 3 - 6, beware the squats are coming back! Prep - 2s be prepared to run till your little legs drop off!

We were fortunate enough to be awarded the Sporting Schools grant again this term, which resulted in every student participating in two lessons of Softball run by a nationally recognized coach. We were very lucky and thankful for Jackie’s coaching tips and I learnt a lot from her.

The next two weeks we are moving onto dance. The Prep - 4s focusing on folk dancing and other surprises, while the 5/6s will be working together to plan the Year 6 Graduation dance.

State Track and Field Championships
On the 24th of October Lauren from Unit 4 competed at the State Track and Field Champions, she ran in the 12/13 girl 800m event. Huge congratulations to Lauren on achieving one of her primary school goals, of progressing so far! She did an amazing job and everyone at AVPS is extremely proud of her.

Junior Swimming Program
We have started our Junior School Swimming Program, thank you to all of the parents who are helping out at the pool with getting the kids ready, the teachers truly appreciate the extra help. Remember there is no swimming on Wednesdays! The two week program will fly by and hopefully everyone will have an amazing time!

Sun Smart
Parents as we get into the hotter and sunnier months can you please make sure your children are putting sunscreen on in the morning and they have some on their bag. Sadly I’ve already seen some sunburnt arms and faces and at AVPS we want to make sure no one gets sunburnt.

Cheers,
Britt Stephenson
PLANNING FOR 2020 UNIT PLACEMENT & a note about requests
Planning is now underway to determine our 2020 class and unit structure. As always, when the structure is confirmed, this will be communicated via the newsletter later this term. In the meantime, please note we are now seeking requests in writing for siblings to be placed together (or not). To ensure requests can be met, these are due by no later than TOMORROW Friday 15th November 2019. Please attention this information to Michael Downing at this email address: [email protected]

Also, please be aware that the school does not and cannot accept requests for teachers or units. The reason being, it is impossible for the school to satisfy such requests from everyone if this was to become usual practice across the school. It also sets parents/carers up for great disappointment if request are made that cannot be accommodated. This is a situation we would prefer to avoid and therefore ask parents/carers not to request a particular teacher or unit. AVPS staff go through a complex and comprehensive process of determining individual and social needs of students in developing unit groups for the following year, noting our multi-age structure also encourages students and teachers to be together for more than one school year where possible.

Please note, students and their families will be informed about their 2020 Unit placement in the final week of term 4 and will have the opportunity to meet with their new unit and teacher (where possible) before the end of the school year.

YEAR PREP ENROLMENTS 2020 or STUDENTS LEAVING
To assist us with planning for the 2020 school structure, please finalise any Year Prep or new enrolments for 2020 as soon as possible. In addition, please notify the school if your child/children will not be returning to AVPS in 2020. It is important for the school to have this information at the earliest possible time to help organise unit structures, budgets and staffing arrangements. Your cooperation in this matter is much appreciated.
2020 AVPS ENROLMENT- UPDATE
We are only able to accept 2020 Year Prep- 6 student enrolments if Ascot Vale PS is the student’s closest Victorian Government Primary School. Regional Department of Education and Training (DET) Victoria staff have communicated that AVPS must limit the number of students enrolling from outside the designated neighbourhood area to prepare for a forecast increase in enrolment numbers in the coming years from within our designated neighbourhood. We are obliged by the Department of Education and Training (DET) to accept all students for whom Ascot Vale PS is the closest Government school to their permanent residence (residential address, not business).

Please visit the Find My School website to identify your closest Government school. If AVPS is not your closest Government school, your child may be placed on a waiting list.  Please contact the school (9370 6507) if you are unsure or have queries about our enrolment restrictions.

The school requires proof of current residence - either a current local council rates notice, utility bill or rental agreement and match this to a driver’s licence or passport. We accept all siblings, regardless of current residential address, however, at least one sibling must be currently enrolled.

PARENT PAYMENT POLICY AND CHARGES 2020
School Council have approved the attached policy and arrangements for student charges 2020. Features of the student charges include:

  • A $10.00 increase in Essential Learning Items (the first increase in three years).
  • Excursions, Sport and Swimming to be paid 'as you go' (when needed) in 2020.
  • Swimming charge is TBC but will be no more than $115.00
  • Canberra Camp deposit of $150 for Year 5 / 6 students and $50 for Year 3/4 students.
  • No change to MVIMP charges.
  • Part Five - Parents/ carers are encouraged, but not obliged, to contribute to our optional contributions to enable AVPS to add value to the following:
    • Building Trust Fund - the bulk of which will go towards replacing and landscaping the old playground.
    • Library Trust Fund - for the purchase of books.
    • Student Sponsorship - to enable all students to participate in camps and excursions.
    • Working Bee - in lieu of attendance at these events.

Please find the 2020 SAMPLE Student Charge Sheet and Parent Payment Policy below for your information, noting these charges are not due until 2020. More information will be provided later in the year regarding how parents/carers can pay for these charges. We are planning to set up online payment options via Compass, as well as continuing to accept payments in person at the office in 2020.
