PLANT STALL
Attention to all plant donators.  If you are generously intending to donate plants on Fete day, it is requested that you bring in any donations before the fete starts.  It will be much easier to park close by to off load plants and it allows us to arrange them in the stall.  You can bring them in on Friday evening, Moonee St side, then leave them on the little back decking area behind the music room.  The gate should be open.  I will be at the school early on Saturday morning between 8am and 9am to receive donations. See flyer attached below. If you have any queries please feel free to ring on Ph. 0407807460.

Thank you

FROM THE PRINCIPAL TEAM

FETE THANK YOUS
AVPS extends a very warm THANK YOU to Sue Macaulay for her tireless efforts in co-ordinating the 2020 AVPS Fete.
Sue has been working behind the scenes all year to recruit a band of volunteers who have ensured it will be a fabulous event for our AVPS community.

Importantly, the fete will also be an opportunity to raise valuable funds for a new playground we are planning to install in 2020.

So please come along and support this major fundraising event for AVPS; it will go ahead in 'rain hail or shine'.

Thank you to all in anticipation of what promises to be an enjoyable and successful day on Saturday.

We look forward to seeing you all here from 1:00-6:00pm.
OCTOBER IS WALK TO SCHOOL MONTH
AVPS has registered in the Moonee Valley City Council's (MVCC) Walk to School initiative.

Along with health benefits, walking to school has benefits for the whole community. It reduces traffic congestion, saves on parking, helps us connect with family and friends and even saves the environment. We look forward to everyone taking advantage of the improving weather conditions and choosing to travel to school in safe and healthy ways in the month of October. Members of the Student Representative Council will oversee the collection of data about students' travel methods in the month of October.

SCHOOL COUNCIL NEWS

At our September meeting, AVPS School Councillors approved the 2019-2022 School Strategic Plan which is a 4 year plan outlining the educational direction and targets for the school.  We also discussed the results of the Vision and Values activity which will help shape the mission statement of the school.

AVPS School Council has our next meeting scheduled for Monday 21st October. Term 4 is the busiest term of the year and we have many items to cover including approving the Parent Payment policy for 2020 and developing the Annual Implementation Plan for 2020.

Did you know that our meetings now feature Child Safe Standards as a running agenda item? At each meeting we talk about the ways that the seven standards are being met at AVPS and we are always looking for ways to improve on practice.  These standards can be found on the AVPS website in the 'Policy' section.

The Education and Policy team have been hard at work reviewing the huge number of Department of Education policies.  Some of these policies require community feedback so please look out for them as they are published in the newsletter.

The Finance Committee have been working on the 2020 parent payment schedule at our last meeting on Monday 14/10.  We also approve all fundraising activities and oversee financial operating statements.  Kylie Moverley (our wonderful school Business Manager) has been a particularly valuable member of the Finance team this year. She has been working very hard behind the scenes and attending PD courses such as asset management.  She is also a whizz on Compass and always has a smile on her face even with the huge increased workload as a result of the school fete!

The Buildings and Grounds team have been considering different playground designs and quotes for upgrading the Big Playground which was not covered by the recent Capital Works grant.  We are hoping for a large injection of cash from our school fete this Saturday so please dig deep and bring friends, neighbours and relatives along as every little bit counts!  I will be on the Spinning Wheel selling tickets for some amazing hampers so please come and say hello and support all the hard working parents who have volunteered countless hours to make the fete happen.

Helen Millar
School Council President

PLEASE HELP ISAAC SUPPORT A WORTHY CAUSE
Dear students,
My name is Isaac and I’m in year 6 unit 4, and I’m on a mission to collect plastic bottle tops. For my term challenge I decided to research about helping hands supported by Envision. They turn plastic bottle caps into filament/string that they run through there 3D printer to create prosthetic hands. So I need all of you to tell your parents don’t throw out the plastic bottle tops because I need you to bring them in and put them in this box. I am going to set boxes up in every classroom to collect them and at the end of each week I will come around and collect them from your box. But the bottle caps have to have a 2 or a 4 on them other wise the people who make them can’t recycle the other bottle caps. And before putting it into the box please make sure they are cleaned.

Thank you
Isaac
