E SAFETY PRESENTATION
Thank you to Michael for organising the eSafety presentation for parents that took place last night at AVPS.  The audience was treated to an extra special presentation by Greg from the eSafety Commission (who usually addresses much larger community/municipal groups) and were most appreciative of the high quality, comprehensive, thought provoking and entertaining presentation! Thank you Greg.
Please find below, two documents that were shared at the presentation and click on the link above to access further (very useful) eSafety resources for parents.

AVPS is planning for Student Agency and Voice to be a focus on for improvement throughout the next School Strategic Plan.  We have already responded by establishing a 'staff' Student Agency Voice and Leadership team, who facilitated a professional learning session with teaching and non teaching staff this week. Part of this learning involved increasing familiarity with Amplify  (click link). This is a practice guide for school leaders and teachers. It explains how to create the conditions, employ the practices and develop the behaviours, attitudes and learning environments that are conducive to student voice, agency and leadership.

We plan to work together with our staff, students, School Council and the wider school community to
establish our new Vision, Values, Targets, Goals and Key Improvement Strategies in the process of developing our new School Strategic Plan 2019-2022 over the coming months.

ANNUAL REPORT MEETING
Please join our School Councillors on Monday June 24, 7:00 pm in the staff room, where the 2018 AVPS Annual Report will be presented to celebrate achievements, identify opportunities for improvements and outline some of the plans currently in place to address these. We will also seek input from attendees to begin shaping the direction of the new school vision and values for our new AVPS Strategic Plan 2019-2022.
We hope to see you there. Click this link to register:

NEWS FROM THE SPORTING FIELD
Cross Country
On Wednesday the 5th of June, seven students from AVPS went to the Moonee Ponds Primary Cross Country Primary Girls and Boys/Mixed Division Finals, all students ran their hardest and did amazingly well.  Three of those students; Sophie. W, Hazel, B and Jordy. W, have progressed to the Western Metropolitan Primary Cross Country Primary Mixed Region Finals! They will be competing on Thursday the 20th of June at Brimbank Park, a massive congratulations and good luck to these three students!

Interschool Sports
Sadly, we had to cancel another ISS game due to bad weather on the 31st of May, but thankfully the weather was fine for us on Friday the 7th of June and we were able to play! AVPS played against Moonee Ponds West, the scores for the games are below.
The scores were:

AVPS students came back excited by their improvement on the field! Our final game is this week, if you would like more information please look at the window outside of Unit 4.

Parents of 5/6 students please look on Compass for the event ‘5/6 Sports Morning’ and give your approval, the 5/6 team and I have organised a surprise for the student to make up for the cancelled games due to the bad weather we have had these past few weeks.

PE
The SEDA Cricket clinic is still running every Tuesday, students are learning the skills associated with cricket by engaging in skill-based games. Due to the large number of SEDA coaches, students are lucky enough to have one-on-one coaching! Students skills are developing fast and every session is full of laughter.
AVPS is getting ready for the Athletics carnival in Term 3, the majority of PE lessons are focusing on the sports involved in Athletics such as High Jump, Shot Put, Hurdles, Relay running and much more! We are lucky enough to use our Sporting schools grant to have Manny from Athletics Australia, who is a jumps expert, to come out and take the lessons. Manny trains Olympic level athletics and we are very grateful for the knowledge and experience she is sharing with us.

Cheers,
Britt Stephenson
SCHOOL COUNCIL NEWS - reminder
Our next meeting is the most important one for the year: The AVPS Annual Report Meeting - Monday 24th June 7pm
This is a great opportunity to celebrate our school's achievements as well as consider the future direction of the school. AVPS has undergone a comprehensive School Review in Term 1.  The results of the review provides the foci of our new four year School Strategic Plan 2019-2022.  As part of this, AVPS would like to invite community members to take part in a Values and Vision activity at the Annual Report Meeting which will help define the Values and Philosophy of the School.

If you would like to have a say in what matters to you, then please come and take part in this meaningful activity. AVPS is fortunate to have such an engaged and enthusiastic Parent Community and your feedback is needed and valued. Please come along and support our hardworking School Councillors on June 24 as we present the Annual Report and talk about the role of School Council. Click on this Eventbrite link to register your interest: AVPS School Council Annual Report Meeting 2019

I look forward to seeing you there!

Helen Millar - School Council President
PLEASE HELP ISAAC SUPPORT A WORTHY CAUSE
Dear students,
My name is Isaac and I’m in year 6 unit 4, and I’m on a mission to collect plastic bottle tops. For my term challenge I decided to research about helping hands supported by Envision. They turn plastic bottle caps into filament/string that they run through there 3D printer to create prosthetic hands. So I need all of you to tell your parents don’t throw out the plastic bottle tops because I need you to bring them in and put them in this box. I am going to set boxes up in every classroom to collect them and at the end of each week I will come around and collect them from your box. But the bottle caps have to have a 2 or a 4 on them other wise the people who make them can’t recycle the other bottle caps. And before putting it into the box please make sure they are cleaned.

Thank you
Isaac
